History Big Sky, Montana is known for quite a few things, and though his career was short lived, Linus Blake was one of those things. Sarah and Elias Blake were born and raised in Big Sky, it wasn't a town that they had ever thought about leaving, they were thrilled and enjoyed the small town feel that they had about their life. Elias had dedicated his life to public service, having joined the Sheriffs department as a deputy when he was fresh out of high school, and Sarah had decided that she wanted to try her hand at selling real estate, and she found that she was very good at it. Life for the couple was more than they could ever have hoped for it to be, they loved their small town life and the fact that it was rare that they ever had to lock their doors in fear of what their neighbors might think or do. Their lives only got better when Sarah found out that she was pregnant, they were going to have a son, and thanks to their mutual love of the funny pages in the Sunday paper, they had decided that they were going to name their first born son Linus. On December 26th, Sarah and Elias received a late Christmas present, their son Linus was born healthy and happy, and they knew from that moment forward that Linus was due for great things.
His parents expectations were high, but when Linus was young he was able to meet and exceed his parents expectations of him, he was an adventurous boy but he never really stepped too far out of his parents range, or at least when he was really young he was that way. Eventually Linus liked to go exploring, and he had a tendency to get into trouble with a few of the other neighborhood boys, but it was never anything incredibly serious that they would be doing, just small things that annoyed the neighborhood, but as always in a small town atmosphere, it was always a 'Boys will be boys' attitude. Linus kept very close with his friends through out the years, and as they got older he started to become a bit of the ring leader of the group, and his two best friends that he spent his time with would wind up on the same team as he was when they played hockey. Despite his town not being very sports oriented, Linus loved to play peewee hockey, and as he got older he started to get more recognition for his skills on the ice, so much so that when he got to high school, he was the captain of the varsity squad and wound up becoming an All-American and accepted a scholarship to the University of Minnesota. At this time he was dating a girl, she was two years younger than he was, but they were still inseparable, he thanked one of his best friends, because this was his sister. When it came time for him to graduate from high school, they ended up calling it quits, because she was about to move away and he was about to go to college, they made a clean break. What he did not know was that at that time she was pregnant, and when she left, she took that secret with her.
When Linus arrived in Minnesota, no one knew him, all that was really known around campus was that he was from a small town and he was brought in to play hockey for the school, this was a chance for Linus to really show who he was, to show that this was where he belonged. It wasn't too long into his freshman year that Linus was starting to make a name for himself, not just as a hockey player, but as a real big man on campus sort of guy. Girls liked him, guys wanted to hang out with him, and while he never officially joined a fraternity, he was a defacto member of every frat on campus. It got to the point where he never really wanted to go back to Montana, he didn't miss the small town feel, he loved the fact that he was known by anyone and everyone, and that he was also starting to get a name for himself in the NCAA. It took four years, but finally the Minnesota Golden Gophers won the National Championship in hockey, and that made Linus quite a hot commodity, or at least that's what he thought. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with his BA in Business Management, but that wasn't what he had in mind, he wanted to play hockey for the rest of his life, and so he decided to enter the NHL Draft, to take his chances and see what would happen. While some people thought he would go in the first round, it seemed that Linus' stock started to drop, and it wasn't until late in the second round of drafting that he was picked up by a team he didn't think he was even on their radar. With a grin that could light up the city he was heading to, Linus was drafted by the New York Rangers.
Linus entered the NHL with high hopes and expectations, he spent ten years playing hockey professionally, he wound up making the All-Star squad twice, and played with such great names like Mark Messier, Jaramier Jagr, and the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. Towards the end of his career Linus started to suffer from knee problems, he wound up being traded away from the Rangers to the Boston Bruins and than he wound up ending his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, playing part of his time there and then part of his time with the Norfolk Admirals in the AAA League. After he blew out his right knee again, Linus officially retired from professional hockey, he knew it was time, and while he never got a chance to lift Lord Stanley's Cup, he enjoyed his time in the league and he was always going to treasure his career. Despite liking Florida and Virginia, Linus didn't know what to do after he was done playing hockey, so with a heavy heart he decided to do the one thing he knew he could do, the one place where he would always be welcome, and while he hadn't been back to Montana in a long, long time, he moved back to Big Sky in hopes that his family would embrace him. He was fortunate that they had. He bought a house and now owns his own bar in Big Sky, he was done with his hockey career, he was now glad to have a bit of a quiet life. While he doesn't know it yet, his life will soon change.
